The CNRS Multi-year Cooperation Plan with Africa, launched in 2022, aims to establish scientific partnerships based on co-construction, equity and long-term cooperation. It relies on three funding mechanisms, specifically designed to support the implementation of the plan at different levels of ambition: Joint Research Programmes (JRP), Residential Research Schools (RSS) and Visiting Fellowships (VF).
In the first wave of calls for projects in 2023, the CNRS funded 32 scientific cooperation initiatives between CNRS researchers and their counterparts on the African continent. This momentum continues with a new selection of projects in 2024, focusing on Joint Research Programmes (JRP). These four-year research programs help to structure existing collaborations and respond to training issues, while opening up to a variety of themes ranging from the human and social sciences to biology, chemistry and mathematics.
