Kick-Off Symposium of GDR RIFT
Mobilizing a research community around the East African Rift

The first symposium of the inter-institute project GDR RIFT – Grand Rift Africain – took place online on November 9–10, 2020.
The central theme of this first symposium was to define the object “Rift”, as it is perceived quite differently from one community to another. This event was an opportunity to approach the Rift from an interdisciplinary perspective and to better understand the interactions between the various communities within the RIFT research group.
To build this cross-disciplinary dialogue, we focused this first meeting on discussions rather than scientific presentations. We would like to thank all participants for sharing their expertise, which we will summarize for each of the workshops.
