The African Great Rift is a continent-scale region where unique interactions occur between the Earth and living systems, including human societies.

Objectives of the GDR RIFT

The primary objective of the GDR is to provide the French scientific community with an inter-institutional structure to bring together researchers from CNRS institutes in Ecology & Environment, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Earth & Universe Sciences around the African Great Rift. The goal is to characterize the interrelationships within this complex system, encompassing living organisms (including humans), geodynamic processes, and climate dynamics.
