The project aims to investigate the geological (including geomorphological, hydrogeological, and volcano-tectonic activity) and ecological causalities of the temporal dynamics and spatial distribution of cholera outbreaks along the rift.

It is based on the documentation of the volcano-tectonic characteristics of the area, and on the knowledge of the circulation and quality of surface water along the north-south and east-west continuum, according to the periods of the year. This knowledge will be coupled with geolocalised epidemiological data to identify the factors at work in the emergence of epidemic outbreaks.
