The research activities in Geophysics at ICTP-EAIFR are divided into 2 research axes: 1) the geodynamic context of the East African Rift and its western branch, and 2) the volcanic context in the eastern region of Rwanda bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo, where Mont Nyiragongo, a stratovolcano in the Virunga volcanic chain, is very active.
